A BORDER AND 10 YEARS APART
mixed-status families CALL for immigration reform
For Laura Araujo, a U.S. citizen and mother of five, every FaceTime with her husband Alberto is more than just a call: it’s a reminder of the 10 long years they must spend apart until Alberto is allowed to return to her and their children because of a decades-old immigration law.
As one of 22 million people living in mixed-status households — families of mixed immigration standing — Araujo is fighting to change that.
KEEP HER SAFE
SEX WORKERS FIGHT FOR DECRIMINALIZATION IN CHICAGO
Though sex work spans centuries, it has long been stigmatized and criminalized. In the United States, sex workers live in fear of sting operations and police abuse. Three Chicago women share their relationship to the industry and their experiences with law enforcement as they lead efforts to make Illinois the first state to decriminalize sex work.
Keep Her Safe premiered at the 2026 Oscar-qualifying American Documentary Film Festival in Palm Springs. I co-directed and co-produced this short documentary with an all-woman team.
